The transfer may not be an indirect transfer, such as a consignment. I'm still using the Kyson system with my Canon i after more than a year, and have refilled the tanks several times so far. The system works very well for me. The only problem was routing the ink tubes so they stayed clear of the printhead movement.
I finally made a plastic bracket that mounts on the printer which works well. I used the CIS in my i, and found it was quite height sensitive. I loved the ink, but stopped using the CIS.
What I have now is spongeless carts that I bought from Colorbat. They have a little pipette that lofts the ink to the top of the cartridge and then into the final run to the print head. Accordingly, it depends on atmospheric pressure to flow correctly, and does not have the ink reservoir chamber plugged.
Whenever I get an out of ink warning, I simply open the cover of the printer, and inject the ink right into the cart without removal. I have a tendency to top off all the carts at that time except for green and red. I use a little LED light to simplify loading by more clearly seeing the ink rise in the cart. This has worked perfectly for me for around a year. I love the inks, but frankly am not totally persuaded that they are truly archival. I have even made t-shirts with them and they survived 4 test washings quite well.
However I have a hard time believing that a little company can come out of nowhere, and by a simple mechanism like they claim finer grind on their pigments achieve what no one else has been able to do-i.
Whether or not these are truly pigmented inks in the original sense or not, I was pretty impressed with the colors compared to the OEM's. Some other forums have said that the colors were fairly good and that the colors resisted fading longer than the original Canon inks, so I went ahead and purchased one for my Pro since the original costs of Canon cartridges were unbelievable.
I've also read a few other opinions that were not that impressive as well but for the cost savings, I decided to give it a try.
I've found a few Canon pigmented ink systems listed on eBay so I know these inks do exist. Kyson seems to have 30 day money back and a 1 year warranty for replacements so hopefully they keep good on their promise. So far the colors have been impressive and no fading yet. I think the bottom line is whether or not these Kyson inks produce the same or better quality than the original Canon inks.
From my experience with the Kyson System for the Pro , the color output has been impressive and projects have been fade resistant thus far for about 2 years now. Having a chemistry background, I know that pigments can be dissolved in solution and precipitate backout once it reacts with another media such as paper. I not sure on whether or not the inks will will fade - it's too early to tell. Since installing I have not had a single clog - even when not used for a few days. I would recommend the system to anyone with a Canon printer. The only small reservation I have is that very few people have heard about it let alone used it.
