The Getrag has been sold; unless someone objects I am leaving this post up since it contains a couple of useful comments by other members. I purchased the transmission in error, believing I could use this for my BMW Csi transmission swap; it is now a spare part? This bell housing is integral with the transmission and does not have the Motronic sensor holes drilled out. Therefore this is for cars using the later Moronic system versions.

This tranny would then work fine for your e24 unless you have your heart set on the superior and more expensive Non removable bell housing, waffle pattern for case casting. Considered weak and cannot accommodate a M5 clutch. Sheet metal shifter support. Overdrive 5th. Used sheet metal support thru about 86, then used the cast support.
Waffle case pattern. Identify it by the fins on the bottom of the transmission and non-removable case. Is easily identified by a removable bell housing which allows use on M10, M20 and M30 engines, as long as the correct bell housing is used or reused. All except M3s have a sheet metal shifter support. Close ratio, but overdrive 5th gear. Often incorrectly called a close ratio or dogleg, but a is a 4 speed transmission.
I did not want to deal with drilling and tapping as my tools set up is not up to speed. I found another Getrag on the board from an 87 i which I have already installed.
I bought my sixer a few years ago and have been building it up slowly. This forum has served to be a great resource.
Just hope the seller still has it. Good luck!! When building an MM Ultimate Getrag transmission we do the following extra steps beyond a conventional rebuild. We check the synchronizer for rock.
We then deglaze the synchro and cone to create the right drag coefficient. It's designed to provide customers with high horsepower turbocharged builds with a very stout transmission option. It features longer gearing than the ZF 5-speed E36 and E46 and is especially suitable for customers that want the longest gears for street use. The shifter has transmission-specific BMW geometry on the bottom. Our design eliminates all components that often result in a sloppy BMW shifter. It accepts the BMW shifter ball bushing and our custom short shifter in the center. Designed to bolt to an upgraded GM Getrag diff. Note: An E46 clutch kit must be used with our flywheel, specifically a clutch kit for a i or i 5 speed car 10 spline, mm clutch disc. It must be a kit that includes a pressure plate designed to fit an OEM E46 flywheel.
Additionally, an E30 pilot bearing must be used in place of the E46 bearing. Later Getrag transmissions have synchronizers with asymmetrical teeth. This is the kind of improvement that can be made. Blueprinting the Ultimate Transmission There is considerably more to what makes our rebuilt transmissions so sound than simply substituting superior parts and re-engineering. Problem Areas Early on, we saw two major problem areas in the Getrag transmission: The aluminum shift forks would wear out prematurely and synchronizers problems in 2nd and 3rd gear.
More Aging Problems Once, the transmissions started getting up in age, we started getting a number of these transmissions coming in that had run out of oil.
The Final Straw After awhile, we could not find any good used transmissions that could be rebuilt. All parts included are proudly made in the USA. Two distinct versions of the integral bellhousing were used by BMW, depending on the associated engine either a BMW M20 or BMW M30 , with additional minor variations to accommodate different flywheels and engine management systems.
